[...It probably says something about them, doesn't it? That they have this so aggressively down to a science by now. One of them contacts the other, it's probably about something terrible, let's break out the alcohol and see exactly how terrible it is.
It's not really any weirder than anything else happening around here lately, granted.
Either way, there's the usual standard outburst of canine aggression when Jaeger arrives, and it's audible; it takes Wesker a short while longer than usual to show up at the door, but at the very least he doesn't seem any worse for wear physically and the dogs seem to have calmed down a significant amount when he does so.
Of course, that's going to change the second that Jaeger does anything audible (or, like, enters the house at all), because those dogs love Wesker and absolutely nobody else, but at least they're put up a decent distance from the study where the noise won't be a concern.
And that's where we're going tonight, come on. At least he doesn't immediately move to start in on the alcohol once we're there.]
[Why do you have to own dogs. Why couldn't you have cats or like, friendly dogs. One of these days he's going to get bitten and then probably get a memory about that stupid anime dog he's still sort of mad about. Ugh.
But for now everything is fine and Jaeger takes a seat, setting the bottle down between them.]
So! What wonderful thing have you remembered this time?
...It had to do with the first thing I told you about. Regarding the old man.
[Granted, he's...considering the alcohol - but no, he'll be all right, at least for now.]
I think I've remembered why that happened - there was a discussion that happened in the same room, and it seemed to lead directly into the man being killed.
It changed things. The content of that discussion.
[And from the sound of it, he...still isn't sure what he thinks about that, but any emotional reaction to it is going to be completely deadened for now; his voice is strangely clinical as he discusses it, really.]
He said that I had been specifically selected for my potential and taken somewhere to be made into a member of a new race of human beings - those who would be chosen to serve him while he reigned over the world as a god. Apparently he narrowed down the selection of his chosen few by way of human experimentation and brainwashing - I was injected with viruses that had a very low survival rate, to see if I would survive, and was put through a battery of physical tests. I also had various thought processes and impulses "programmed" into me, so he could ensure that I would act according to his will and serve him without question.
[God, it's like he's describing the chemical elements he handles at work. Just...very straightforward, very blank. The sky is blue, the grass is green, he was apparently horrifically abused as a child.]
...I wasn't the only one he did this to, either; apparently, he did this to a large number of children. I was just the only one that survived.
He deserved to die, Jaeger. It's still...unsettling, but he doubtlessly deserved to die.
[He's quiet for a moment at that, though he does seem to relax at it; he hasn't really been sure how he feels about any of this, but it's...a relief, in some sick way, to hear Jaeger be so outraged at it, to have confirmation that he was right in what he did.
Even if he's still subscribing to the notion that it isn't really him at all who did it.]
It explains a lot of things, I think - both about that situation and perhaps why this person's behavior has been what it has. It's just something that I've been having trouble stepping back from, on a personal level. Not identifying with it in some way has been more difficult than usual.
I'm sure if anyone can handle it, it's you. Do you think talking about it will help? I'm curious to know what you make of all of this and the impact it had on his behavior.
[That...actually gets a long period of hesitation out of him; for a moment, it's difficult to tell if he's going to answer at all or if he's just going to deliberate it for the foreseeable future. But eventually he'll say something.]
...If you're interested in discussing it, I suppose I don't see why not. Though I can't say that I'll have acceptable answers.
[Jaeger tips his head a bit at that. That reaction's... interesting.]
If you don't want to discuss it, we don't have to. I'll admit that I'm curious and would like to discuss it further, but if you don't want to we can stop.
[That would certainly explain Wesker's lack of fear responses too. It's just a coincidence that they both went through terrible things in childhood though, right? Maybe that's why this is striking Wesker strangely.]
I'll admit that the lack of fear responses is the thing I understand least, but I had a fairly normal childhood.
...After a while, you learn that fear is useless. It isn't going to help you, after all - if anything, it's just going to make your situation worse. So there's no sense in continuing to encourage its presence.
I'm not the sort of person who admits to being afraid easily, but not having that response at all would be a little worrying, I think. For me, at least.
[...]
Though I suppose you're used to it, ja? I suppose I'll just have to be a bit more careful when I watch your back from now on~!
[It's obviously supposed to be light and teasing and while it does manage that, Jaeger's expression doesn't quite make it all the way there.]

The dogs.

[And true to his word it'll take him about twenty minutes before he shows up, with another bottle in hand. Just in case, of course.]

No, no, I agree with you entirely, he absolutely deserved to die! Who does something like that, especially to children!?
[i mean it'd still be fucked up if it was done to adults but jaeger cares a lot about kids, okay.]
Human experimentation and brainwashing... all for what? So he could rule as "god"? How ridiculous!
no subject
Even if he's still subscribing to the notion that it isn't really him at all who did it.]
...It's good to hear that.
no subject
[Except people who are completely against killing for any reason, but Jaeger's found the line and this guy went sailing straight over it.]
no subject
...I know that. It's just something that's good to hear confirmed, that's all.
no subject
[Well, it's good that we now know that the old man needed to die.]

[It's bad, still, but...]

No. I'll be fine.

Spending the early part of one's life in a situation like that tends to cause children to come out...strangely.
[He's told you he spent time in an orphanage before, and indicated that he's seen some shit himself, so...]
It would explain the lack of fear responses, at any rate.

He can't bring himself to ask, but the question weighs heavily on his mind.]
But that's... It sounds difficult to simply shut off something like that.
no subject
I don't remember deciding to do it. Simply that after a while, it stopped happening.
