It seems like things always manage to get worse for you, somehow.

They aren't always worse. Some of the memories have been...good, albeit difficult. Things and people that I used to like, for example. Fighting is always a little strange, but generally enjoyable.

I did have some things that I considered good at the time; there weren't many, but they did exist. And things are obviously different now.

[That gets him to smile.]

I'm very glad to hear it. It's good that you had things you enjoyed in those memories and even better that you have things like that now. Of course, I know I'm one of them!

I'm not certain how much I can guarantee that right now. Again, I won't do anything to myself while you're away, but as a general precaution, that's a large part of the reason why I would prefer to have you here.

[He knows the magnitude of the situation now. He's still not sure how he'll actually approach it if things start going south, but now he knows that's a possibility.]

The answer I've found is the sort of thing that only furthers the conclusion that it would have been better if I were destroyed along with my world.

[And there's something in those words that he doesn't like very much, either, outside of the obvious; it's...a lot, and it's hideous, but overall it is what it is.]

...It isn't precisely related to anything the old man said to me, incidentally; that was harrowing, but nothing for you to be concerned about at this point.

It's difficult to dismiss something like that, you know...

[But if what Wesker's remembered is that much worse... this is on a scale that Jaeger can't even imagine.]

[He trails off, shaking his head. He can't exactly argue it without knowing what he's arguing against. Besides, he already said he wouldn't like the man Wesker used to be. With what happened to Excella, he's pretty damn sure of that.]

[It's easier to talk about this than it is the memory itself, which is likely saying something.]

He planned to rule over the world as a god - and to create a new and advanced race of people to assist him in that goal. All of us were designed to do whatever he wanted... To be obedient to certain suggestions that were planted in our heads as children, to discard free will and do exactly as we were told, to the extent of killing ourselves if necessary.

I was the only one that survived; he considered me a success. Proof that whatever he was trying to do worked, in the end.

I'm so sorry. I'm sorry he did that to you and others. That man... he really was awful, wasn't he? To do that to children...

It's difficult to reconcile, however. And it seems that all of this - everything he was talking about - it's all happening again with Retrospec. Having thoughts planted in my head and changed around at will, so I'll become the person they want me to be...

Its troubling, I suppose.

It's terrifying, really. I obviously don't have the exact same experiences and I'm still scared of what they'll do. But for you... I can see why that would bother you so much. I'm so sorry. But... it's still possible that we won't end up becoming exactly like the person we were in our memories. That's the hope I cling to, anyway.

I suppose I owe you some sort of apology - this isn't the sort of thing that should be discussed with people, you shouldn't have to handle anything of the sort.

Well, it's true that I have no idea what to do with most of it... but I'd prefer it if you tell me what's wrong. I may not be able to do anything to help, but I can at least listen. I personally find it's better to talk about the things that are bothering me, after all.

Sometimes it helps, in its own way. Regardless, I don't expect you to know what to do with it; I don't imagine that most people would.

I'd be a little surprised if anyone knew what to do with it, honestly! It's a lot just to hear; I can't imagine how it would be to remember that.

You always do find a way to make sure you're fine, but it's okay if you aren't for awhile.
