I'm not certain how much I can guarantee that right now. Again, I won't do anything to myself while you're away, but as a general precaution, that's a large part of the reason why I would prefer to have you here.

The answer I've found is the sort of thing that only furthers the conclusion that it would have been better if I were destroyed along with my world.

He planned to rule over the world as a god - and to create a new and advanced race of people to assist him in that goal. All of us were designed to do whatever he wanted... To be obedient to certain suggestions that were planted in our heads as children, to discard free will and do exactly as we were told, to the extent of killing ourselves if necessary.

I was the only one that survived; he considered me a success. Proof that whatever he was trying to do worked, in the end.

It's difficult to reconcile, however. And it seems that all of this - everything he was talking about - it's all happening again with Retrospec. Having thoughts planted in my head and changed around at will, so I'll become the person they want me to be...

It's terrifying, really. I obviously don't have the exact same experiences and I'm still scared of what they'll do. But for you... I can see why that would bother you so much. I'm so sorry. But... it's still possible that we won't end up becoming exactly like the person we were in our memories. That's the hope I cling to, anyway.

I suppose I owe you some sort of apology - this isn't the sort of thing that should be discussed with people, you shouldn't have to handle anything of the sort.

Well, it's true that I have no idea what to do with most of it... but I'd prefer it if you tell me what's wrong. I may not be able to do anything to help, but I can at least listen. I personally find it's better to talk about the things that are bothering me, after all.

Sometimes it helps, in its own way. Regardless, I don't expect you to know what to do with it; I don't imagine that most people would.

...I've always been responsible for myself. My father - [you know, the adopted one, not the biologically paternal shitshow] - generally left me to my own business, to sort through my own problems. That doesn't mean that he was unkind to me, because that isn't the case, but I manage my own issues, and if I'm not able to then I should figure out why and correct it.

[He...really isn't accustomed to the idea of letting someone else handle it, or being taken care of in any way, let's put it that way.]

[Jaeger nods at that, though it still takes him a moment to figure out what to say in response.]

...I do think it's important to work yourself out eventually. But it's okay to let yourself be upset for awhile. Sometimes just letting yourself hurt or be angry for a bit will make it easier to work through the issue. At least, that's how it's always been in my experience.

It doesn't have to be the sort of thing you show anyone if you really hate the idea of it, but I do think it could help.

[He's quiet for a long moment after that's out there; he seems to be considering it, genuinely, which is likely a good sign.]

It might not seem very productive at first, but I think it'll be good for you to at least try it. I'll be here if you need someone to vent to, of course.
