He did say that he won't disclose who got away with it, if any of us manage. Which I admit I'm also unsure about, with regards to the reasoning. I suppose disclosing those who win his little game would make it open season on them among those of us who were left, but that would be to his benefit - he wouldn't have to prove whether he can grant wishes one way or another if those who earn them die.
